SUMMARY:Backyard Foraging Class
DESCRIPTION:A Guided Walk through the gardens\, meadows and woodlands at Emerald Mountain Sanctuary\, Highland County\, Virginia. \nDiscover the abundance of edible and medicinal plants that grow in the lush bio-diverse region of the Virginia Western Highlands. \nWe begin by exploring edible weeds in the gardens\, then meander through the picturesque fields\, hedgerows\, and forest edges.  We will identify edible wildflowers\, berries\, nuts\, greens\, leaves\, and barks. \nYou will learn about ethical foraging ground rules and plants that should never be picked because they are endangered or poisonous to humans. \nAt the end of your walk\, enjoy a sample of the many drinks and dishes that can be prepared with foraged foods. \n2025 Foraging Classes are scheduled for April 26\, June 28\, and September 27\, 2025 \nMaximum # of participants is 10 per class. \nLearn how to turn free\, foraged foods into delicious beverages\, jams\, salads\, baked goods\, entrees and side dishes\, herbs and spices\, and medicinal salves and tinctures! \nMorning or afternoon tours are available.  Choose either a 2 or 3-hour walk. \nCall or text 540-290-4033 or e-mail: Em**********************@***il.com \nCosts for a two-hour guided tour: \n$120  (up to 2 individuals);  additional $50 per person (3 or more) \nCosts for a three-hour guided tour: \n$180 (up to 2 individuals);  additional $70 per person (3 or more) \nWear sturdy walking shoes\, long pants\, and insect protection.
